Updated on

Telkibanya, HungaryThe aircraft, a 32-years old Antonov AN24, owned by Slovak Air Force (Letectva a Protivzdu Obrany-snej Slovenskej), crashed and burst into flames in a wooded area, near the eastern Hungarian village of Telkibanya, some 20 km from its destination, Kosice air base.

Among the 43 occupants, only one passenger survived. All occupants were young Slovak soldiers coming back to Kosice after a peace mission for KAFOR (UNO) in Kosovo.

The DFDR analysis showed that the root cause of the accident is a crew error. No technical problem has been recorded. During the approach phase on the Kosice airport, the crew descended 2 miles too early. He was supposed to fly 1000 feet above a hill surrounding the airport, but he was too low and collided with it.
