Mexico, PhilippinesThe ATMA Airlines Antonov AN-12, operating for Interisland airlines on behalf of UPS, took off from Mactan, Philippines, for a cargo flight to Angeles, Philippines. 6 crewmembers were onboard. The airplane crashed about 11nm southeast of the airport. 3 crew were killed, 3 crew received injuries and were taken to hospital.

The crew reported a fire on board a few minutes prior to impact with the crew attempting to get the airplane onto the ground immediately. The surviving captain said that they had an electrical short developing into a fire on board. He decided to put the airplane down onto the ground immediately. The aircraft crashed in a rice paddy near the town of Mexico, Philippines, and broke apart. The aircraft burst into flames before all crew could leave the aircraft.

Interisland Airlines is currently on the blacklist of airlines banned from flying in the European Union.
