Bagram, AfghanistanThe Ilyushin IL-76 belonging to Silk Way Airlines and operated on behalf of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) took off from Baku, Azerbaijan, for a cargo flight to Bagram Air Force Base, Afghanistan. 9 crewmembers and 18 tons of cargo were onboard. The plane crashed while on approach to Bagram's Air Force Base. All the nine people onboard were killed.

The transport plane carried a total of 18 tons of cargo (automobiles and trailers). It was on approach to Bagram's Air Force Base, descending through 13000 ft (4000 meters) when radar contact was lost. At the same time a flash and fire were observed on a mountainside about 25 km from Bagram.

No emergency call and no report about any anomaly had been received from the crew. The wreckage was located in a mountainous area, near Akhshay, at an altitude of 12500 ft (3800 meters).
