I was the fire rescue crew chief for this bird. The pilot did and outstanding job catching the cable and limiting the damage to the plane. The plane suffered a landing gear door malfunction and the pilot unsuccessfully attempted to cycle open the door. the incident occurred on 29 Apr 99 and the eagle was assigned to the 44 FS. The pilot lept from the plane once stopped and was unhurt.
