F-111 successful belly landing

On July 15th 2006, this RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) F-111 experienced landing gear troubles and performed a successful belly landing.

That breaks the heart. A beautiful bird with mach 2+ capabilities gets its bottom scraped up! Nice landing though.

Very nice landing, could have been a lot worse I suppose.

The aircraft lost a main wheel on take off, due to a maintenance error. While they flew around burning fuel, crews on the ground ran various options on the simulator. After using most of their fuel,they chose to belly land and take the wire

I believe this pilot had just graduated from flight school for the F-111 and for a person not to panic and do something stubid in a situation like this in a 40+ year old aircraft is a testement to the RAAF Training and to his personallity.
