Accident account

The Ghana Airlink Fokker F27 was arriving at Accra in deteriorated weather, with heavy rain and reduced visibility. During landing, the aircraft contacted the runway abnormally, with a heavy load on the nose landing gear.

The aircraft sustained major damage and the fuselage broke during the accident sequence. The accident caused several fatalities and survivors were evacuated from the wreckage. Historical sources do not all provide the same figures for the number of occupants and fatalities, and these data should be checked against the database before publication.

Investigation findings

We did not identify a publicly accessible Ghanaian official final report from which an established cause could be quoted. Heavy rain, visibility and the manner in which the aircraft contacted the runway are contextual elements, but their precise causal role cannot be determined reliably without the investigation's findings.
