Accident account
An Iran Air Airbus A300, with no passengers on board, was being towed at Tehran Airport when it crossed an area used by departing aircraft. At the same time, an Iranian Air Force Lockheed C-130 was on its takeoff roll.
The C-130 collided with the towed Airbus. Both aircraft were destroyed by the impact and ensuing fire. The occupants of the C-130 were killed and the tug driver was injured.
Investigation findings
The ground collision is clearly established in the historical information available. However, we did not locate a publicly accessible official Iranian final report that would allow a precise attribution of operational responsibility or identify the complete chain of ground-movement and air-traffic-control failures. The article therefore does not assign a more detailed cause than the simultaneous presence of the two aircraft on conflicting paths.
