Accident account

The Transbrasil Boeing 737 was arriving at Porto Alegre's Salgado Filho Airport while a severe thunderstorm affected the area. The aircraft landed on runway 29, whose surface was wet.

During deceleration, the Boeing left the runway. The aircraft was damaged and about twenty occupants were injured, mainly during the evacuation. No fatalities were reported.

Investigation findings

The official CENIPA database classifies the occurrence as a runway excursion. We were not able to retrieve, from accessible public official sources, the full report needed to quote a precise cause and contributing factors. The thunderstorm and wet runway are therefore retained as circumstances of the landing rather than being presented as an official causal conclusion.
