The Antonov 28 belonging to the local private airline Air Traset was on a flight from the mining town of Lugushwa (130 km south of Bukavu) and carried mining products but also 14 passengers. The plane went down on approach to its destination airport in Bukavu (Congo).

The Antonov descended in low clouds and struck a mountainside. It crashed in a forest and caught fire. All 17 people onboard were killed.
