The aircraft was on a local training flight when, while on approach for its eighth touch and go landing, it was seen to bank sharply left and crash. There was one instructor and two student Captains aboard. All of them were killed.
Merpati Nusantara Airlines is currently on the blacklist of airlines banned from flying in the European Union.
