Recife, Brazil

Updated on

The Let L-410 operated by NOAR Linhas Aéreas took off from Recife, Brazil, for a passenger flight to Natal, Brazil. 14 passengers and 2 crewmembers were onboard. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all the 16 people onboard.

The twin-turboprop aircraft developed technical problems immediately after takeoff. The plane was in initial climb, less than 1 minute into the flight, when the crew declared an emergency and indicated they would attempt to return to the runway. Two minutes later, the crew indicated they could not reach runway 36 and that they would attempt an emergency landing on the beach of Boa Viagem. The Czech-made L-410 was seen steeply descending and crashed 20 seconds later and burst into flames. The plane has been pulverised.

The airplane crashed in a vacant field near the beach, about 1 NM from the runway end.
