4 accidents of Yakovlev aircraft since 2000

The Yakovlev Yak-42 operated by YAK Service took off from Yaroslavl, Russia, for a passenger flight to Minsk, Belarus. 37 passengers and 8 crewmembers were onboard. The airplane crashed right after takeoff, 1 kilometer away from its departure airport. Among the 45 people on board, 44 people were killed, and 1 survived with serious injuries. The plane failed to climb after lift-off, and impacted an antenna outside the airport perimeter. The aircraft reached a few tens of meters of height, and suddenly rolled left and impacted ground. The airplane came to rest about 1 km (0.6 NM) from the airport shattered into pieces, the tail section at the bank of Volga River and the fuselage in the river. The weather conditions were very good at the time of the accident, with few clouds, low wind and good visibility.

The aircraft, on a scheduled passenger flight from Termez to Tashkent (Uzbekistan), crashed while attempting to land at Tashkent. Weather at the time of the accident was poor, with visibility reported at 900 meters in fog. All 37 passengers and crew members were killed.

The aircraft, on a military charter flight from Kabul, Afghanistan to Zaragoza, Spain, crashed while on its third landing attempt for a refueling stop at the Black Sea port city of Trabzon. All 75 people onboard were killed. An international commission that investigated the crash ruled that the company and its staff were guilty of the accident. A tired and untrained crew, violations of international passenger transportation rules and poor technical condition of the plane caused the accident.

The Yak-40 departed Tehran (Iran) for a passenger flight to Gorgan where a new airport was to be opened. The aircraft carried Iranian Transport Minister, two deputy ministers, and seven members of parliament. Poor weather at Gorgan reportedly forced the crew to divert to Sari (Iran). It was later found to have crashed in a forested area in the Elburz mountains. All 30 people onboard were killed.
