7 aircraft accidents in Angola since 2000

The Embraer EMB-120 operated by Air Guicango took off from Dundo, Angola, for a medical flight to Luanda, Angola. 4 passengers and 3 crewmembers were onboard. The plane crashed around 20 minutes after takeoff. All 7 occupants were killed. The twin-engine EMB-120 was carrying three crew members, two medics, a company employee and a South African patient, suffering malaria symptoms. The plane was enroute about 15 minutes into the flight when the crew declared emergency reporting an engine failure followed by fire. About 5 minutes later, radio contact was lost. The wreckage was found the following day at 320 km (175 NM) from Dundo. There was no survivor.

The Boeing 737 plane carrying 79 passengers crashed and broke in half when it landed at an airport in M'banza Congo. 5 people were killed, and several injured. The plane belonging to Angola's state TAAG airline was en route from Luanda to M'Banza Congo, which is in northern Angola near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, 300 kilometers (180 miles) north of the capital, Luanda. The aircraft's landing gear appeared to give way as the plane touched down halfway down the runway: two tires were punctured. The crew lost control, bounced, a wing tip hit the ground and the plane crashed into a small brick house built on grassy land next to the runway. The aircraft's front section broke off from the fuselage and came to rest about 50 meters away from the rest of the plane. In Africa, rural airports often have dwellings next to the runway, and pedestrians and livestock can cross the tarmac. The M'banza Congo airport has no air traffic control tower.

The aircraft was on a passenger flight from Luanda to Luena. It crashed 2 kilometers from the Luena Airport (Angola) while on approach. The plane was chartered by the regional government of the Province of Moxico. Half of the passengers onboard were killed.

UNITA rebels claim to have downed the aircraft as it approached Luena on a military flight. All 22 people onboard were killed.

One minute after the take-off, the airplane failed to climb and started an uncontrolled turn to the left. Witnesses observed smoke around the plane. The Antonov AN-24 crashed and exploded on impact. All the 40 people onboard were killed, and 1 person on ground died.

The Antonov An-26 operated by ACA-Ancargo had departed Saurimo, Angola. About twenty minutes after takeoff, contact with the aircraft was lost. The aircraft crashed and there were no survivors.

The Antonov An-32 operating a passenger flight in Angola was accelerating for takeoff when the crew encountered difficulty controlling the aircraft on the ground. Available information indicates a braking-system problem while the pilots were also attempting to avoid major defects in the runway surface.
