Fatal Runway Collision at New York LaGuardia: CRJ-900 Strikes Fire Vehicle

The Air Canada Express (Jazz) CRJ-900, operating a scheduled flight from Montreal to New York LaGuardia with 72 passengers and 4 crew, was involved in a fatal runway collision during landing rollout. The aircraft struck an airport fire vehicle that had been cleared to cross the runway at the same time as the plane was landing. The impact resulted in the loss of both pilots, multiple serious injuries among passengers and emergency personnel, and significant aircraft damage.

This accident highlights the critical importance of runway incursion prevention, situational awareness, and effective coordination between air traffic control and ground operations in high-workload environments.

UPS MD-11 Cargo goes down after engine detached from wing

The UPS McDonnell Douglas MD-11 cargo aircraft, operating a flight from Louisville (Kentucky) to Honolulu (Hawaii), crashed shortly after takeoff on November 8th 2025. The plane, carrying three crew members, hit the ground and exploded about one kilometer beyond the runway. The crash resulted in 3 fatalities on board, 10 on the ground, and 11 injuries. During the takeoff roll, the left engine of the trijet detached, damaging the central engine. Losing power, the aircraft climbed to about 30 meters before falling back to the ground and striking several buildings.

First Boeing 787 accident : Air India crashes on takeoff into residential area

An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed just seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, en route to London. Following an initial climb lasting approximately 12 seconds, the aircraft experienced a sudden loss of altitude and impacted a residential area. The crash resulted in the deaths of 241 occupants, with only one survivor. Numerous ground casualties have also been reported. This marks the first fatal accident involving a Boeing 787 aircraft.

CRJ-900 flips on runway in Toronto crash landing

Video footage of the CRJ-900 crash in Toronto, on February 17th 2025. It shows the aircraft making a hard landing on runway 23 without executing a flare, causing it to flip over. Operated by Endeavor Airlines for Delta, the plane was carrying 76 passengers and 4 crew. Despite the aircraft being destroyed, all survived, though one person was critically injured and seven sustained minor injuries. Strong winds, blowing snow, and poor visibility contributed to the accident. A post-crash fire was swiftly contained.

Jeju air's Boeing 737 lands gear-up, overruns the runway and crashes in a concrete wall at Muan airport

A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800, carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members on a flight from Bangkok to Muan, South Korea, crashed during landing on December 29th 2024. After being warned of bird activity near Muan Airport’s, the crew reported a bird strike and declared an emergency. The aircraft attempted a go-around. The plane then landed gear-up, touching down more than a third of the way down the runway, skidding on its belly until it went off the runway and collided with an ILS antenna mounted on a concrete wall. The impact disintegrated the aircraft, which burst into flames, leaving only the rear section relatively intact. Of the 181 people onboard, only 2 people, seated at the rear, survived.

Loss of control of an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 on final

Video capturing the final moment of the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer ERJ-190, on December 25th 2024. The plane crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, after the crew had reported an emergency 30 minutes earlier, indicating that they were having difficulty controlling the aircraft. With 67 onboard, 38 perished, and 29 survived. The aircraft experienced control issues, fluctuating speed and altitude, before crashing 1.6 NM from Aktau’s airport. A survivor reported an explosion and shrapnel, with post-crash evidence suggesting missile impact. Fire consumed much of the wreckage, but the tail section remained intact, revealing open service doors mid-flight and damage consistent with external force.

Emergency landing on Florida highway after double engine failure of Bombardier CL-600 Business Jet

The Bombardier CL-600 business jet lost both engines while on approach to Naples Airport, Florida, on February 9th 2024, . The crew radioed there would not be able to make it to the runway and decided to make a forced landing on the I-75 highway, 5km northeast of Naples Airport. The aircraft struck a truck during the landing and burst into flames as it came to rest against a concrete wall at the side the highway. Both pilots were killed. 3 other occupants survived.

The Air Antilles Express DHC-6 veers off the runway on landing and collides with a helicopter

On August 24th 2023, the Air Antilles Express DHC-6 landed on Saint Barthelemy airport (France), veered off the left side of runway and struck a parked Eurocopter AS350 Écureuil helicopter. 7 people were onboard, and one occupant received minor injuries. There was no one on board the helicopter at the time of impact. Both the DHC-6 and the helicopter received substantial damage.

Witness the heart-stopping moment when an Embraer EMB-120 operated by Halla Airline attempted a landing in Mogadishu, Somalia, on July 11th 2023. With 30 passengers and 4 crew onboard, the left main gear collapsed, causing the plane to veer off the runway and crash against the perimeter fence. One occupant suffered minor injuries.
